MAURICEVILLE WEST

COMING OF AGE PARTY MISS C. PALMER HONOURED. ("Times-Age” Special. > Last Saturday evening Mi' and Mrs It. Palmer entertained a large number of guests in the Mauriceville West Hall at a social and dance in honour of the coming of age of their daughter. Miss Constance Palmer. Music was supplied by Mr A. Barnes, while much appreciated extras were played by Mr J. Larsen and Mr T. Jones (piano-accor-dion). Novelty dances' were won by Mr and Mrs H. Trass and Miss J. I,arsen and partner. During the evening Mr Milner proposed the toast of the guest of the evening and on behalf of Mr Palmei presented Miss Constance Palmer with a gold key. He then asked her to cm the beautiful cake decorated with the 21 kewpics.

Mr H. Mortensen responded on behalf of Miss Constance Palmer. Miss Palmer wore a very pretty frock of gold taffeta, relieved with a mauve sash, and Mrs Palmer was attired in a blue marocain frock and black evening coat. A happy gathering concluded with the singing of Auld Lang Syne.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Mauriceville District Women’s Institute was held yesterday afternoon. Mrs A. Forsberg presided over a small attendance. The design for the banner was decided upon and Miss M. Nickolaison has kindly undertaken the task of producing the finished banner in suede.

Mrs Cameron gave a very interesting report on the Federation meeting. A most interesting demonstration on "clay modelling" was given by Miss M. Welch, some fine samples of her work being displayed. A competition for the best knitted garment for refugee children was won by Mrs Algar with Mrs Cameron second and Mrs Gregory third. The best bloom competition was won by Miss J. Larsen. Miss R. Mortensen being second and Mrs Pain third. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs Pain and Mrs Wilson. Hearty votes of thanks were passed to demonstrators and to the hostesses. The gathering closed with the singing of God Save The King. Personal Items. The many friends of Mrs H. Nielsen, who underwent an operation in the Masterton Hospital a fortnight ago. will be pleased to learn that she is making a satisfactory recovery and will soon be able to return home. Miss M. Larsen, who has been spending a short holiday in Makuri, Pahiatua, has returned home. Mrs I. Gallon, Lansdowne, who is recuperating after her recent illness is staying here with her sister, Mrs Forsberg. Miss P. Nickolaison was a weekend visitor to Palmerston North.
