GOLF SEASON CLOSED LIST OF TROPHY WINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Pongaroa Golf Club held its official closing day at the weekend in fine weather. A good attendance was reinforced by visitors from othei clubs, and several competitions were played. The winners of these were:Putting (ladies). Mrs R. McGregor: (men). R. D. McGregor. Approaching (ladies), Mrs S. W. Eunson; (men), D. Frazer (Eketahuna). Mixed drive and approach, Mrs A. M. Theed and D. Frazer. Five hole flutter (ladies). Mrs R C Scott and Mrs D. Frazer (Eketahuna) tied, Mrs Scott winning a play-off. Mr D. Frazer of Eketahuna won the men’s event.

After afternoon tea, the trophies won during the season were presented. Mr P. H. Donovan, the club captain, in calling on the president to make the presentations, congratulated the club on having had such a successful season and thanked the committee for its efforts to this end. He also thanked the ladies for their help in entertaining and providing afternoon tea. The president, Mr A. M. Theed, welcomed the visitors and members and spoke briefly on the improvement of the standard of play during the season. He exoressed the club’s thanks to Mr F. R. Cowper for the donation of another permanent trophy and to Mrs Cowper for a donation. During the season. Mrs S. W. Eunson had achieved the perfect shot, holing in one at the Sth, and her achievement was being suitably recognised. Mr Theed then asked Mrs Donovan to hand the trophies to the winners. The principal events and winners were as follow:—Ladies.—Championship, Miss V. Jones; runner-up, Mrs R. D. McGregor; ladies’ handicap cup, Mrs F. Cowper; eclectic. Mrs R. D. FANCY DRESS BALL The .annual children’s fancy dress ball, under the auspices of the Ladies' Guild of St John’s Anglican Church, was held in the Town Hall, Pongaroa, on Friday evening. Favoured by fine weather, the function was a marked success and there was a record attendance of adults and children. The Rev L. F. Owen made an efficient M.C. and kept things moving brightly, especially for the juveniles, with novelty dances and games. Much appreciated cinema entertainment was provided by Mr A. P. Campbell. Music for the evening was provided by Mr G. Barker, and extras were supplied by Miss E. Kent and Miss J. Veale. A dainty supper was provided by members of the Ladies’ Guild.
