TIRAUMEA

WOMEN’S DIVISION MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Tiraumea branch of the Women’s division of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union there was a good attendance of members, presided over by Mrs R. J. Harman sen., president. After the business and correspondence had been dealt with, the competition was voted on, the result being:—Mrs R. J. Harman, jun. 1; Mrs R. Houlbrooke, 2. The competition for junior members was won by Miss E. Wallis, with Miss K. Willis second. It was decided at the next meeting to hold a competition for seniors for a frock costing not more than 10s, and for juniors a Chistmas present for father costing not more than 3s. It was decided at the meeting to buy “Brave Days” for the Division Library. Afternoon, tea was served by the hostesses. Mrs Wright, Mrs Robbie, and Miss E. Wallis.

UNITED TENNIS CLUB SEASON OFFICIALLY OPENED. The United Tennis Club held its opening day last week when a large number of members commenced play for the season. Mr C. Raleigh (President) spoke briefly to the members outlining the committee's plans for the season. He asked Mrs R. J. Harman, sen. to open the courts. Mrs Harman in opening play for the season wished the club every success during the season. Afternoon tea was served in the Tiraumea Hall. The officers for the 1939-40 season are as follow: —Patron, Mr R. J. Harman; president, Mr C. Raleigh; secretary. Mr B. Wright; committee: Mrs R. J. Harman sen. Miss D. Hart. Messrs L. Curtis. L. Wallis and N. Hislop. ELECTRIC POWER INSTALLATION TO BE CELEBRATED. A meeting of householders decided to celebrate the installation of electric power in the district by holding an electric light ball on Friday. November 17. Personal. Mrs E. Hislop, who has been visiting Mr and Mrs N. Hislop, Tiraumea. has returned to Wellington.
