MASTERTON CATTLE FAIR. PRICES DISAPPOINTING. The Associated Auctioneers report having held their third spring cattle fair yesterday, when an exceptionally large entry of 3400 station cattle came forward, which no doubt_ was caused by the general shortage of cattle feed in this district. The cattle yards were taxed to the utmost, while all the yearlings were accommodated in the sheep yards. All the stores were showing the effect of the hard autumn and winter, and very few came forward carrying condition, and those that did met with a ready sale. There was a good attendance, including a fair number of outside buyers, who obtained a good proportion of the yarding. The prices on the whole were disappointing to vendors, who had been holding on in hopes of a good rain. However, most of them met the market which would be about 20s to 30s below our two previous fairs. Fat cattle did not show this depreciation, remaining at about recent market rates. The following were the principal prices:
