CARTERTON GUN CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING ("Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the,Carterton Gun Club was held in the Dalefield Dairy Co’s, building last evening. Mr F. Taplin presided, in the absence of Mr C. A. Gray, and there were twelve members present. The annual report and balance sheet were read and adopted. The balance sheet showed a substantial credit. The chairman in moving the adoption of the report spoke in congratulatory terms of the work of the secretary and the Management Committee of the newlyformed club, it being due to their untiring efforts that the club showed such a splendid credit balance at the end of the season. The thanks of the club were undoubtedly due to these members for their keen interest. He had no doubt but that the current season would, under the same good management, be a decided success. However, it believed all members to give of their best for the coming season. The effects of the world war would be felt but it only required co-ordination to enable the season to be carried through successfully. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr W. Howard Booth; president, Mr Geo. A. Vincent; vice-presidents, Messrs J. W. Barnard and J. Udy; management committee, Messrs F. Taplin, J. S. Laurenson, R. Williams. C. A. Gray, M. Kiddie, O. A Abbott, Les. Rayner, W. Moroney and A. Teal; hon. secretary, Mr J. V. Gustafson (re-elected); assistant secretary, Mr M. Kiddie: hon. treasurer. Mr J. Laurenson; hon. auditor, Mr H. Mortenson.
The date for the opening of the season and the arranging of grounds was left in the hands of the Management Committee. Mr Geo. A. Vincent was accorded ; very hearty vote of thanks for a promised donation of a two guinea trophy to be competed for on the opening day. Votes of (hanks were passed to everyone who had worked so assiduously for the club during the past season and to the Press for their generous reports of all shoots during the season. The following is the annual report:— “It gives me great pleasure to present the first annual report of the resuscitated gun club. The original club held meetings over 30 years ago but I am sure that the past season was the most successful the club has had since its inception both from competitive and financial aspects. It is very pleasing tc see the old members who have stuck to the club through fair weather and. foul, and who still hold their own against all comers; also it must give the foundation members of the revived club much pleasure to realize that theii object of encouraging young members has been fulfilled. We must extend our congratulations to one new shooter, Mr Rex Walker, who has proved he can compete with New Zealand's best. The club has much to thank the members for the assistance given so willingly to make the season the success it was; also to the donors of the many trophies. We must acknowledge that owing to the generosity of the Racing Club, we have probably the best shooting ground in the Wairarapa, for which w< are most grateful. We extend our thanks to the Press for publicity given to club matters so willingly. I do not intend to thank the members of the committee individually but must state that the club is very fortunate in having such an industrious body. One person who deserves special mention is Mr Mortenson, the hon. auditor, who I am sure did npt realise the amount oi work the balance sheet would entail when offering his services so willingly. I do not intend to itemise the balance sheet as presented to mem’ bers. Suffice is it to say that the club showed a profit of approximately £5O.
While congratulating the club on its position. I would advise members to think carefully before sanctioning any heavy expenditure at present as owing to the very unsettled state of the country it seems that the club may have a lean time for a while.” The report is signed by J. V. Gustofson, the secretary.
