GREYTOWN
CROQUET CLUB MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown Croquet Club, was held at the Park Pavilion yesterday afternoon. Mrs R. Vile occupied the chair. It was decided to hold the official opening on Saturday next at 2 p.m. Honorary members are to be invited. Weekly Button games are to be arranged for play. New members will be cordially welcomed. Mrs H. G. Carter has offered to hold a bridge party in the Plunket Rooms on November 27 to augment the Croquet funds.
WIND-UP DANCE MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB. There was a large attendance of shooters and others at the wind-up dance of the Greytown Miniature Rifle Club in the Odd Fellows' Hall last night. Te Tail’s orchestra supplied the music and Mrs R. Tilson acted as M.C.
The trophies won during the year were presented by the president,, Mr Robert Tilson, who congratulated the members on their success. The majority of the trophies were won by the lady members their standard of shooting being very high. The winners of the trophies were as follow:—A grade. R. Tilson; runner-up G. Rhodes. B grade, Miss G. Gray; runner-up. Miss T. Bennett. The Aggregate Cup winner, Miss C. Gray. The Memorial Cup for competition between South Featherston and Greytown was presented to Greytown.
SCHOOL COMMITTEE MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Greytown School Committee was held last evening. There were present Messrs H. G. Carter (chairman), F. Dennes (treasurer), J. Herod, W. Wiggins, G. Robinson, W. Grigg. H. C. Trotman. Mrs W. J. Knell and the headmaster (Mr S. C. Shedden).
The Social Security Department wrote stating that applications for labour on construction work would be considered and it was decided to inspect the grounds at the end. of this week. A vote of sympathy was passed to Miss Kedell who had recently lost her mother. The resignation of Mr J. D. McFarlane from the High School staff was accepted with regret, and the appointment of Miss W. Harding, of Levin, was approved. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £4O 17s 9d, and accounts passed for payment amounted to £29 14s 9d. The headmaster reported the roll numbers as follow: —Primary 301, sec-, ondary 33. Two High School pupils had secured positions during the last month.
The milk supplied daily to the school was 283 half pints. The new bicycle shed had been erected by the Education Board staff. The calf judging and lamb competitions are to be held on Friday. December 1. at 10 a.m.
SWIMMING BATHS PREPARATIONS FOR SEASON. A start was made on Saturday to prepare the local baths for the coming season. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs H. T. Rees. McMaster Street, will leave on Thursday for Hawera on a holiday. Mr Roy Haigh. of Te Politic, is spending his annual leave with his parents, Main Street. Greytown. Greytown Fire Brigade. The Wairarapa Electric Power Board is at present erecting the screen on the Greytown Fire Station and this should be in operation by the end of the week.
