MASTERTON EAST SCHOOL

SUCCESSFUL BAZAAR. FUNDS BENEFIT CONSIDERABLY. A large number of friends were welcomed at the bazaar on Saturday, by Mr A. Gibbs, the chairman of the East School Association. In expressing gratification at their attendance Mr Gibbs said that the co-operation of parents had to be sought when it was desired to improve the grounds or to supplement the school equipment. The bazaar was then formally opened by Mrs Coddington, who was presented with a posy of auriculas by Patricia Anderson. The school rooms, looking most attractive with their well-laden stalls were soon thronged with buyers. The ladies in charge of the various stalls were: —Work, Mrs Smith and Mrs E. Ball. Cakes, Mrs Gibbs and Mrs Benge. Produce, Mrs Davies, Mrs Bradley. Afternoon tea, Mesdames Fitzwater, Cole, Bragden and Knowles. Soft drinks were dispensed by Messrs Cole and Bragder. The bran tub was under the supervision of Mr Benge. While out of doors Mrs Kilgour, Mr G. Bilderbeck, Mr F. Cairns, Mr Adams and Mr S. Ihaka helped to augment the funds with other attractions. The children’s stall in the playshed did a thriving trade, and articles useful and ornamental found a ready sale. When the serious business of buying was over, visitors sat on the wide verandah enjoying the unexpected sunshine, the beautiful view and the music provided by the Central School Band. The boys’ marching was seen to advantage this year, as the school lawns are now kept in order by the Riverside Golf Club. Among those seen patronising the stalls were Mr Robertson, M.P., and Mrs Robertson. The sponge cake competition, which was judged by Mrs Fisher. Homebush, was won by Mrs Gibbs with Mrs Anderson. second. The winner of the dressed doll was Miss Audrey Daysh. The cushions were won by Miss E. Jones and Nancy Mooney. The funds of the Association will benefit considerably by the generous help and patronage given to the bazaar, and thanks are extended to those who contributed in any way to its success.
