INCREASE OF ONE PENNY PER GALLON. APPROVED BY DEPARTMENT OF INDUSTRIES. (By Telegraph—Press Association,) WELLINGTON, This Day. As from this morning, motor-spirit throughout New Zealand will cost an extra penny a gallon. This announcement was made last night by a representative of the oil companies. It was stated that full details of the companies’ increased costs had been submitted to the Department of Industries and Commerce, which, after close investigation of the position, approved of the increase. The requisite amending regulations were gazetted last night and take effect immediately. The increase is stated to be entirely due to the depreciated value of sterling in relation to the dollar. The Wellington retail price for super grade petrol will now be 2s 5d and foi standard grade 2s 4d. The price of petrol was advanced by Id per gallon in Masterton this morning? The price per gallon for super grade petrol is now 2s 6*d, and that for the ordinary grade spirit 2s s.'|d.
