STAFF DISMISSALS
AS A RESULT OF IMPORT RESTRICTIONS. POSITION OF AUCKLAND FIRM. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, October 22. Twenty-five employees of one large Auckland hardware firm are to be given notice of dismissal from their employment this week as a direct consequence of the further reductions and prohibitions of imports for the first half of 1940. “The restrictions on imports from which we are already suffering justified dismissals some time ago, but we deferred action hoping that there would be an improvement in supplies for the next licensing period.” explained the executive of the concern. “We are now forced reluctantly into shortening staff, and on present indications other dismissals must follow later. “We can claim to be good employers, and our staff shares in our profits by way of bonuses. It will be appreciated that we have not made the decision lightly to reduce staff.”
