RAIN ON THE WESTERN FRONT GERMAN LIME FLOODED IN PLACES. BRITISH RECONNAISSANCE FLIGHT. The following Daventry reports have been rebroadcast by the New Zealand National stations: — , Heavy rain which has fallen on the Western Front has worked on the side of the Allies. The Rhine is in flood and German troops in casemates in the Siegfried Line are pumping to keep the water down. Last night was quiet on most of the front except for reconnaissance raids. A German High Command statement says the first part of the fighting is over on the Western Front. The Air Ministry announces that the R.A.F. carried out a successful reconnaissance flight over North-Western Germany last night. All the machines returned safely. GERMAN AIR LOSSES. Proof that a fifth Gorman plane was lost in the attack on the Firth of Forth on Tuesday is furnished in the fact that two German airmen in a collapsible boat drifted ashore near Whilby, Yorkshire today. More than a third of the planes taking part were lost. STOCKHOLM CONFERENCE. The Stockholm Conference is ending today. The Finnish President said the Russian demands were of a serious nature, but it was hoped that Russia would respect the agreement that bound the two countries. Finland he said, would defend her independence. BULGARIAN CABINET RESIGNS. The Bulgarian Cabinet has resigned. It is reported that the Prime Minister has been asked to form a new Government. There is talk that the new Governriient will demand plenary powers. Air raid precautions in Holland are being intensified.
