MEETING IN MASTERTON. CENTENARY CELEBRATION. There was a very gratifying attendance at the social held by the W.C.T.U. in the Methodist Hall. Representative ; flags were draped around the walls and ( a large white bow gave the desired ef- 1 feet to the commemoration of the cen- ] tenary of the birth of Miss Frances ( Willard, founder of the W.C.T.U., which is now operating in about 50 1 different countries. < The proceedings opened with a < hymn and the Lord’s Prayer, followed < by vocal items by Mrs Morgan, a sex- , tette from the Townswomen’s Guild, c recitations by Mr Weston and Highland < dancing in costume by Miss E. Ed- t wards and party. These items were 1 warmly received and appreciated. I A competition on Reverses was won t by Miss N. Cocker. ! At nine o’clock a dramatic presen- } tation entitled “Century,” was staged with pleasing effect by adults, children t and young people, depicting the progress made in 100 years, in dialogue ( and songs, chiefly regarding temper- \ ance work. Several nations were re- t presented in song and costume. Miss r Barbara Hare gave the prologue to £ the setting in which Miss Willard’s £ great life work and world-wide influ- c ence was emphasised. The success of t the production was due to Mrs Hare jand Miss E. Edwards and appreciation E of their untiring efforts was expressed c by the president. Miss Tankersley, who a presented both ladies with dainty pos- n ies.
