OBITUARY
MRS J. DAVIE.
The late Mrs J. Davie, whose death was announced in yesterday’s issue, had resided in Masterton for- about 17 years, during which period her pusband, the Rev. John Davie, has been minister at Knox Church. Mrs Davie (nee Miss Frances Alice Brown) was educated at Girton College, Dunedin,, her parents being residents of Abbotsford. For a period she was on the teaching staff of Girton College and after her marriage, she resided at Dipton, Hokitika and Palmerston (Otago) before coming to Masterton. Mrs Davie was much beloved by those associated with her in many phases of church work. For a period she was president of the Wairarapa Presbyterial Association and was also vice-president of the Ladies’ Social Guild and of the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union. Besides her husband. Mrs. Davie is survived by two sons, Messrs Paton and Alan Davie of Te Kuiti and. by two daughters, Miss Winsome Davie, of Masterton, and Miss Alison Davie, 'who is at present a student at Otago University. The funeral will take place tomorrow. leaving Knox Church, at the conclusion of a service commencing at 2 p.m., for the Masterton Cemetery. MR WALTER STODDART. An old and highly respected resident of the Bideford district, Mr Walter Stoddart, passed away at his residence yesterday afternoon. Born at Taieri Beach, South Island, 74 years ago, he farmed for a period of 14 years at Owaka in the Catlins district. Coming to the Wairarapa district 30 years ago he purchased a property known as “Riverbend,” Bideford, where he had resided ever since. The late Mr Stoddart is survived by his widow, one daughter, Mrs R. O. Stoddart (Waipukurau) and one son, Mr J. W. Stoddart (Bideford). Another daughter, Mrs Judd, predeceased him a year ago. Two brothers also survive him Messrs Arthur Stoddart (Tahakopa. Catlins), and Mr Richard Stoddart (Outram, South Otago). The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving the late residence, Bideford, at noon for the Masterton Cemetery.
