RAILWAY TRAGEDY
YOUNG MAN KILLED. RUN OVER BY EXCURSION TRAIN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH October 16. A young man was killed when he was run over by an excursion train returning from Timaru at Templeton last night. He was Mr W. P. Oldfield, single, aged about 23, of Mortlake Street, Islington. The train usually stops at Templeton but on this occasion it did not do so. It is believed that Mr Oldfield tried to jump off the train as it was passing through the Templeton station about 9 p.m. His body was found a short distance past the station at 10.5 p.m. by Mr J. Mallett,, railway ganger, Templeton, when he was returning to his home.
