INDUSTRY & TRADE
POLICY OF THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT CRITICISED BY MANUFACTURERS. MOBILISATION CONFERENCE CALLED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, October 4. The Federation of British Industries, after a conference with trade associations, issued a statement criticising the uncertainty of the Government's trade policy. “Manufacturers,” it says, “cannot accept export orders unless they know that they will be in a position to execute them, and appeal for the reservation of a proportion of raw materials and manufacturing capacity for| classes of exports planned ahead.” I The Minister of Labour (Mr Ernest Brown) had a conference with the full General Council of the Trades Union Congress and representatives of the Employers’ Federation regarding a complete mobilisation of industry to ensure maximum war production and the formation of a joint committee to advise the Government on this.
