FEATHERSTON

GUM GROVE GOLF COMPETITION WINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The final round for the eclectic competition was played in Gum Grove yesterday afternoon in perfect weather. The result was: —Mrs Benton 1, Mrs Lovegrove 2, Miss Williams 3. Mrs Carlyon’s trophies for Tuesday’s play were won by Mrs McCarthy and Miss J. Ruane. The hostesses for the afternooh. were Mrs Benton and Mrs Carlyon. Miss Card, on behalf of members and visitors, expressed thanks for the pleasant time provided. FIRE BRIGADE MONTHLY MEETING. - At the monthly meeting of the Fire Brigade Supt. Tidswell presided over a full attendance of members. The Petone and Upper Hutt Brigades forwarded invitations to attend their annual reunions. Owing to the petrol restrictions the invitations were regretfully declined. The resignation of Mr R. Sadler (secretary), who has joined the special force, was accepted with regret, and several members made appreciative references to his services on behalf of the brigade. Mr P. Habib was elected secretary. .Fireman R. O’Keefe formerly of Carterton. was elected a member of the Brigade. Fireman Tait applied for a 2-year gold service bar, completing 33 year’s service.

Supt. Tidswell presented a gold service bar to Fireman A. Walker, completing 31 years’ service, and a silver bar to Fireman R. Skipage, completing 13 years’ service.

Personal.

A few friends were invited to the residence of Mr and Mrs Jeffrey on Tuesday night to bid farewell to Mr H. Piper, who is leaving the district, when a pleasant time was spent, and Mrs Jeffrey contributed several musical items. The gathering concluded with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne.”
