BASKETBALL
OUTDOOR AND INDOOR. EXHIBITIONS IN MASTERTON. During Recreation Week the public of Masterton will have an opportunity of seeing exhibitions of both the outdoor and indoor types of basketball. This should prove most popular and these games will be played on Wednesday. October 4, in the Municipal Hall. The men’s game will be between a Wellington Mormon Elders team and a combined Masterton team. It will be remembered that when a game similar to this was played during Keep Fit Week last year the Masterton team defeated the Mormon Elders but this year the latter are determined to turn defeat into victory. The Elders team is to comprise the best known players in New Zealand. During the New Zealand championship tourney Elders Bodell and Toronto (now in U.S.A.) were the two best players to take the field. Elder Bodell is recognised as the best techinician in the game today and will , visit Masterton for this match. The Mormon Elders team will be: Elders Bodell. Catterell, Lynn. Later. Handy and Brown. The Masterton team is: D. Costello. D. Leete, W. Reynolds. F. Bodie. C. Faulknor; reserves. J. Broome. R. Riley. Costello. Leete and Reynolds have represented Masterton twice at the New Zealand championship. Bodie once and Faulknor was selected hist year but was unable to make the trip. The ladies’ game will be between Lancers (winners of this year's championship) and a team comprised of players from C. Smith and Co., Woolworths. Kenner’s and W.F.C.A. The Lancers’ team will be: Misses M. Eastwood. R. Eastwood. B. Stitt, P. Kilminster, J. Gemmell. The combined team is as follows: —Messrs M. Gadsby, A. Burgess, O. Lysaght, M. Julias. M. Brady, J. Palmer.
