NATIONAL SERVICE
ANNOUNCEMENT IN BRITAIN
By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day. 9.20 a.m.) LONDON, October 1.
A Ministry of Labour National Service announcement says the King has made a proclamation directing, with certain exceptions, that all male British subjects within Great Britain who have attained the age of 20 years, but not 22, are liable to be called up for service with the armed forces, registering on dates to be announced later.
The Government has issued a further series of letter and envelope stickers carrying appropriate messages to the public to .prevent grass, scrub and bush fires in the expected dry months of the summer, according to a statement issued by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon W. E. Parry. The Minister said last summer’s fires, the bulk of which were traced to carelessness, had caused the destruction of some of the finest bush areas in the Dominion, and he appealed for general co-operation this summer in preventing a recurrence.
