Messrs L. V. Forest, Middleton, and D. Carr-Rdllett, of Masterton, are visitors to Palmerston North. Mr N. Linderman, of Melbourne, is visiting Masterton and is staying at the Empire Hotel. Dr Ivan Wilson, of Palmerston North, has been appointed AssistantDirector of Medical Services at Army Headquarters, Wellington. Dr Wilson formerly resided in Featherston. The death occurred at the Palmerston North Hospital yesterday of Mr James Challis, of Feilding, at the age of 78 years. A number of relatives live in the Wairarapa. The funeral will take place tomorrow. Messrs W. Andrews (Wellington), S. Rollerston (Levin), M. A. Alexahdei (Christchurch), C. Rowe (Hastings), and L. Johnston (Havelock North) arc visitors to Masterton and are staying at the Prince of Wales Hotel. The funeral of the late Mr Hugh Johnson took place yesterday afternoon. The Rev. David McNeur conducted a service at the house and also at the graveside in the Masterton Cemetery. Many beautiful wreaths were sent by personal friends and relatives. Messrs A. P. Johnson, A. Johnson (sons). P. Dixon, H. Dixon, H. Scott and P. Ramsay acted as pall-bearers. The death occurred suddenly on Thursday of Mr C. W. Liggins, headmaster of Arahomo Primary School. Mr Liggins had 44 years’ continuous service with the Wanganui Education Board, and had been headmaster of three schools in Wanganui city. He was formerly on the executive of the New Zealand Teachers’ Institute in Wanganui, and up to the time of hit death was a member of the institute Mr Liggins was at school on Wednesday. Four New Zealand librarians have been awarded honorary fellowships by the Library Association (London), a body incorporated by Royal Charter and the principal professional body among librarians in the British Commonwealth of Nations. The New Zealand recipients of this signal honour are Dr. G. H. Scholefield, chief librarian of the General Assembly Library; Mr J. Norrie, who has been in charge of the Wellington Public Libraries since 1928; Mr J. Barr, who for 25, years has been librarian and director of the Museum and Art Gallery in Auckland; and Mr E. J. Bell, who for 25 years has been in charge of the Canterbury Public Library.
