FIRE BOARD
BUSINESS AT QUARTERLY MEETING. ADDITIONS TO STATION. At the quarterly meeting of the Masterton Fire Board, held last night, the tender of £2lO of Mr R. Jenkins was accepted for additions to the Fire Station to provide accommodation for four more auxiliary men. Those present at the meeting were Messrs Trevor Beetham (chairman), W. Candy, K. Mason, W. Kemp and L. A. Hutton. It was decided to take no action in connection with a suggestion that certain areas contiguous to the borough should be brought under the protection of the board.
Accounts totalling £lO2l 18s 2d were passed. The report of the Superintendent, Mr T. B. Clark, stated that 16 alarms had been given during the past quarter, six being false alarms. The value of property and contents on which fires occurred was estimated at £4,000, the insurances totalled £2250 and the total fire loss £l5. The extensions of the fire alarm aerial lines had been completed and a change over from the earth working to the metallic system effected. • There were now 39 street fire alarm call points for the public’s use, against 12 points in 1934.
