POLISH RESISTANCE STILL BEING CONTINUED. IN SPITE OF GERMAN APPEALS. LONDON. September 19. It is reported that Polish troops are still resisting, though repeated appeals have, been broadcast by Germany to lay down their ayms. The appeals are replied to by the mayor of Warsaw, who says that the Poles will defend the city to the very last. The French newspaper. “Le Matin.” declares that the Poles are fighting desperately on a 60-mile front north of the Dniester River to cover the Hungarian and Rumanian frontiers. A German High Command communique says that the dissolution and capitulation of the various Polish groups continues rapidly. It is impossible to estimate the amount of war material that had been captured. It is stated from Riga that Russian forces began to enter Vilna last night and there was some street fighting between Russian and Polish troops. White Russians' folk songs, which had not been heard in Poland for years were sung. Lithuanians hope Russia will return Vilna to Lithuania. It was seized from them by Poland in 1920. BITTER QUARREL REPORTED AT CERNAUTI. POLISH FOREIGN MINISTER & MILITARY COMMANDER. (Received This Day, 10.5 a.m.) NEW YORK, September 19. The Cernauti correspondent of the Associated Press of America states that a bitter argument between the Foreign Minister (Colonel Beck) and Marshal Smigly-Rydz occurred at the station while they were farewelling President Moscicki, who was entraining for Craiova, near the Bulgarian frontier, where he has received permission to reside. The subject of the argument is not disclosed, but the two are journeying by separate routes to Bucharest, where, it is reported, they may go to Paris. VOROSHILOV AS LEADER (Received This Day, 10.25 a.m.) COPENHAGEN. September 19. ■ Marshal Voroshilov (Commissar for War) is personally leading the Russian troops in Poland. DEFENCE OF WARSAW WITHOUT REGARD FOR LIVES OF CIVILIANS. GERMAN OFFICIAL REPORT. (Received This Day, 10.25 a.m.) BERLIN, September 19. A communique states that the Poles are defending Warsaw without any regard for the lives of civilians. The German Air Force carried out only a few attacks.. The use of the Air Force is no longer necessary on the Eastern Front. Fifty thousand prisoners were captured in a battle near the Bzura River and a further ten thousand were captured north-west of Lemberg, which is being urged to surrender.
