The Italian line refused to permit holders of German and Czechoslovak passports to sail on the Rex. Such passengers were put ashore just prior to tne steamer’s sailing. Officials said the orders came from Genoa, but declined to explain the action which, with the blockade in force, has closed the only entry to the Reich from the United States.
