CLAY CHAMPIONSHIP WON BY H. K. SMITH. PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES. J The club held the 1939 clay bird championship on Saturday when there was a good attendance of shooters and friends to witness some first class shooting. ,The champion for the year was H. K. ; Smith, a comparatively new trap shooter, who dropped only one bird in 30. Last year’s champion, D. McKenzie, was rather unfortunate in missing his first bird, as from then on until the 29, when he again missed, he had a string of first barrel hits. Some very fine performances were put up several of the veterans, the shooting of R. J. King. W. H. Saunders, C. E. Grey, F. Taplin, who only missed one bird each, being exceptionally good. The following are the principal scores: —H. K. Smith, 30 (club champion), W. I-I. Saunders, 29 (runner-up); C. E. Grey, 29 (third); F. Taplin 29, R. J. King 29, D. McKenzie 28, Jack McKenzie 28, Jim McKenzie 28. J. Udy 25, J. Lauric 24, L. Rayner 24, A. Macalister 23. Several others retired. At the conclusion of the shoot, the president, Mr R. J. King, presented lhe prizes won during the season as follows: —Clay championship, and holder of the Whatman Silver Challenge Cup, H. K. Smith; clay championship, runner-up and winner of Mr J. Udy’s trophy, W. H. Saunders; clay championship. third and winner of Mr J. McKenzie's trophy, C. E. Grey; clay aggregate and winner of Mr Jack McKenzie’s trophy, R. J. King; clay aggregate runner-up and Mr Jim McKenzie’s trophy. H. K. Smith; 21-yard championship and Mr W. H. Saunders's trophy. Jim McKenzie; 21-yard championship runner-up and Mr G. Brotherton’s trophy. D. McKenzie: 21yatd aggregate and Mr A. Macalister’s trophy, Jim McKenzie ( 21-yard aggregate lunner-up and Mr G. A. Vincent's trophy. S. M. Baird; combined aggregate and Mr D. McKenzie’s trophy, IL K. Smith; 21-yard first barrel performance and Mr L. Meredith’s trophy, R. J. King; best first barrel performance over the season and the Jock Nutt Memorial Challenge Cup. F. Taplin.
