WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEETING AT NIREAHA. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mrs Shannon presided over a fair attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Nireaha Women’s Institute. The motto for the day was “He who is ashamed of asking is ashamed of earning” and the Roll Call “My- favourite' piece of music and the composer.”. In answer to an appeal for Christmas gifts to be sent to the Leper Island it was decided to send a donation. Mrs Shannon’s resignation as president was received with regret. Mrs Hawkins was elected to fill the vacancy.
During the afternoon Miss Spring gave a most interesting demonstration of Italian quilting. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses. Mesdames Nordell and Cadwallader.
The competitions resulted as follows: Rag mat made on canvas, Mesdames J. Drysdale 1, and Wilkin 2. Miniature rock garden, Mesdames F. Hansen and Hawkins, equal, 1; Nordell, 3. Best bloom, Mesdames Hawkins 1, Stewart 2, Drysdale and Mills equal 3. Most entries and least points for six months, Mrs F. Hansen.
