METHODIST CHURCH
LADIES’ GUILD MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. ‘•HAPPY THOUGHT" FOR MONTH. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Methodist ladies’ guild was held at the Children’s Home, Herbert Street, Mrs F. J. Parker presiding over a good attendance of members. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Conly, Jamieson and Hendry. A letter was received from Mrs W. H. Judd who was absent through sickness. Mention was made of the intending departure of Mrs W. Drew for Otaki. Mesdames Parker, Handyside, Prior, Lindsay, Lyttle, Daniell, Shoosmith and Miss Jackson were appointed a Committee to arrange for the Guild effort on October 25. It was decided that a letter be sent from the Guild offering to assist with sewing or other work for Red Cross needs. . A successful cake and recipe stall was run. £1 of the proceeds from the same being voted to the fund for working expenses of the United Church Court at the Centennial exhibition. An enjoyable programme was provided by Mrs Speight (solos) I. Donald (elocutionary item), Brian Marryatt (solo) and three little-girls from the Home. The “Happy Thought” for the month was as follows: “If you would have friends you must show yourself friendly, it will create- an atmosphere around you in which it will be pleasant to live.” Mrs Prior and Miss Allen dispensed a much appreciated afternoon tea. Votes of thanks were accorded to the hostesses and those who gave items. The mbeting then adjourned until next month.
