DAIRY INDUSTRY MEETING OF NEWMAN COMPANY. (“Times-Age” > Special.) At the twenty-fourth annual meeting of the Newman Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., the chairman, Mr J. Monaghan, presided. Before entering on the formal business he asked those present to stand-as a mark of respect to the memory of their late esteemed auditor, Mr T. Bedding. The annual report stated:—Your directors present herewith the Twentyfourth Annual Report .and Balance Sheet for the year ended’July 31, 1939. In the Appropriation-Account you will find the final figures relating to season 1937-38, which gave suppliers a further payment of £1.908 4s 7d, bringing the total payment for first grade butterfat to Is 3Jd. For the season under review we have advanced Is 3d per lb. Ist grade butterfat and we estimate a further payment of 2id per lb. Unshipped cheese in store has been valued at the guaranteed price and any on the shelves at 8d per lb. The retiring directors are Messrs H. G. Brookes and G. F. Jaspers, who are eligible and offer themselves for re-elec-tion. The services of Mr G. Godfrey Taylor, F.P.A. (N.Z.), as auditor, are again available. The two retiring directors, Messrs H. Brookes and G. F. Jaspers, .were reelected, there being no other nominations. Mr G. Godfrey Taylor was reelected auditor. The manager, in thanking the chairman for his remarks, said he could attribute the good grading to the co-op-eration he received from the staff and directors. Referring to costs he said he found it hard to keep them down on rising prices for commodities and rising wages; but he thought they compared favourably with those of other factories. After the business was concluded a smoke concert was held. CARD TOURNAMENT PRIZE WINNERS AT RONGOMAI. At the fortnightly card tournament held in the Rongomai School the prize winners were as follow: —Ladies: Miss A. Morrison, 1; Mrs L. Eagle, 2. Men: Mr Jim Evans, 1; Mr R. McGlashan, 2. Novelty prizes were won by Mrs Fulton and Mr L. McKeown.
