A COURTEOUS OFFICIAL
MR D. C. E. WEBSTER FAREWELLED. PROMOTED & TRANSFERRED TO TIMARU. Members of the staff of the Masterton Court Police Force and Borough Council Traffic Department, met in the Courthouse yesterday afternoon to bid farewell to Mr D. C. E. Webster, who for the past 12 months has been Clerk of the Court and who leaves on Friday for Timaru, where he will take up the position of Registrar of the Supreme Court. The opportunity was also taken to extend a welcome to Mr A. Whitaker, of Wellington, Avho will take Mr Webster’s place ay Clerk of the Masterton Court. ■ In presenting Mr Webster with a pipe,’ case and tobacco pouch as a token of esteem from the Court staff, Mr Joe CorbisJily stated that he was indeed sorry that Mr Webster was leaving, although at the same time it Avas gratifying to know that he was on promotion. "Personally I would have liked to have seen him remain in Masterton for a much longer period, and on behalf of the office staff I desire to thank Mr Webster for his courteous treatment to us at all times, and under all circumstances. We have never worked under a better boss, and we wish at this stage to express our sincere hope that he will be successful in his new position,” said Mr Corbishly. Mr Corbishly also extended on behalf of the office staff a welcome to Mr Whitaker. ’ Senior-Sergeant G. A. Doggett endorsed the remarks made by Mr Corbishly and on behalf of the Police Force, thanked Mr Webster for the courtesy he had at all times extended to the members of the force. Detective-Sergeant W. Kane paid a tribute- to Mr Webster’s work and expressed the opinion that he would do well in his new post. “I am indeed sorry that, Mr Webster is moving on?” said Mr Kane. "He has always been the essence of courtesy and assistance wherever matters of ah official nature have been involved and members of the force Wish both Mr and Mrs Web - ster the best luck and success possible." Mi- Kane also joined in the welcome to Mr Whitaker. “Like the rest of those present, I ton. am sorry to bid Mr Webster farewell " said the Masterton Borough Inspector, Mr J. McGregor. “Mr Webster has always shown consideration for others and I wish to join in wishing he and his wife all the success and happpiness.” “Before I came to Masterton. I was told that I would find working conditions excellent and I have done so.” said Mr Webster in reply. “I have had one of the best staffs in New Zealand to work with and to them I extend my sincere thanks for their loyal co-oper-ation during my term in Masterton. To the members of the police force and to the traffic inspector I would also like to extend thanks —it has been a pleasure to work with them,” said Mr Webster. Mr Whitaker also returned thanks for his warm welcome.
