RETENTION OF STAFFS

ACTING-PREMIER APPEALS IO EMPLOYERS. MEETING WAR CONDITIONS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. An appeal to employers to make every effort to retain the services of employees was made by the ActingPrime Minister, Mr Fraser, when referring to dismissals following" the outbreak of Avar during consideration of the public works estimates in the House of Representatives last night. Mr Fraser said that commercial houses and other firms that had had the faithful services of employees ought not to put them off at the first stress of war. They should at least keep them on and see if their services could be utilised, for after the first shock of war normality would return. He had heard of cases where services had been dispensed with on the first outbreak of Avar. “All of us have a responsibility, and avc should measure up in our respective ways,” concluded Mr Fraser.
