MEAT PRICES

STATEMENT BY MINISTER return to recent ruling RATES. RELEASE OF SURPLUS EXPORT MUTTON. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Christchurch butchers, concerned over the high fat stock prices ruling at Addington market and at being prevented from increasing their rates by the Emergency Regulations, will make representations to the Minister of Supply tomorrow. In a statement on Saturday, the Min - ister said Dunedin master butchers will have to return to the rates ruling before September 1. Christchurch prices were increased on August 31, but since then there has been a further market rise. The Minister hinted that steps would be taken to control prices at stock auctions. The Addington rates at present were the highest in the Dominion because of an abnormal shortage of mutton and beef, but it has been stated that this can partly be overcome by release of surplus expoi t mutton.
