The death occurred at Gisborne of Mr John Ben King, late of Opotiki and Mangatainoka, who was well known .in the Wairarapa. The Rev Father F. J. Herlihy, Hawke’s Bay, who has been studying in Ireland and Roine for the last seven years, has returned to Auckland. After three months’ holiday in New Zealand he will proceed to Korea as a member of the staff of St Columban’s Chinese Mission.
The death occurred in Wellington yesterday morning of Mr William G. Duthie, aged 72. He was a son of the late Hon John Duthie, and retired re-cently-after ■5O years’ active service with John Duthie and Company, Limited, a well-known Wellington firm oS iron and steel merchants. For 25 years before his retirement Mr Duthie was Chairman of directors. His wife predeceased him. There is no family. The death occurred in Wellington on Saturday at the age of 69 years of Mr H. R. Woon, who was well known in the newspaper world some 20 to 30 years ago. He was on the staff of the “New Zealand Times” and the “Manawatu Daily Times” as sporting writer under the nom-de-plume of “Augur.” He was proprietor in conjunction with the Messrs Hayward of the picture business in Palmerston North in the old Alexandria Hall. Mr Woon yras also a councillor in Palmerston North. In his younger days he was one of the leading half-mile and mile runners in New Zealand and was well known in Masterton
