OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS
ANTI-AIRCRAFT DEFENCE (To the Editor.) Sir.—l would suggest that a meeting of the Masterton R.S.A. members of the New Zealand Field Artillery be held at the earliest possible moment to form a detachment for anti-aircraft instruction. My reason for this suggestion is that the present situation is so delicate that it is hard to predict what measures will be necessary, but I suggest it would be as well to be prepared. I would like to make these suggestions:— ’ (1) That as artillerymen of previous experience they would not need a great deal of instruction in gunnery practice. (2) That this detachment be stationed in their own town, unless urgently required elsewhere. (3) That instruction be given in their own town if possible, or if more economical oi’ advantageous that they be trained in the nearest camp. (5) That such detachment be prepared to forego their week-ends to proceed to such training centre, providing better arrangements cannot be made. (6) Transporting of such detachments to be met by the Defence authorities.
(7) That such detachment offer themselves to the Government an a spirit of true co-operation in defence of our country and our people.—Yours, etc., 2/1875. Masterton, September 4.
