‘INCREASED COST OF SHUTTLES. SOME - CONCERN -CAUSED. Considerable apprehension is apparent in the sixth-monthly report of the New Zealand Eadminton Council concerning the cost and supply of shuttles. A sub-committee has been set up and an exhaustive report will be made to the council. The position at present is that shuttles,, along with kindred sports supplies were-restricted by about fifty per cent by the Import Control regulations. The cut was made on the bare needs of clubs and associations throughout New Zealand, resulting in an acute shortage. Prices have steadily risen, until today, the price ranges from 14s 6d to 18s Gd. The average life of a shuttle is about one game, or less, its usefulness depending on the players themselves. The position in the Wairarapa is not as yet desperate, as small supplies recently came to hand, and as the end of the season approaches less are being used. Many clubs are finding the costs of shuttles a heavy burden, and in cases where clubs entered several teams in the Wairarapa competitions, a heavy loss resulted.
