NEW ZEALAND TOURNEY SECTION PLAY CONCLUDED. EASTERN AND CANTERBURY IN FINAL. ■ (By Telegraph—Press Association.) BLENHEIM, August 31. Section play in the New Zealand women’s hockey tournament concluded this afternoon with Eastern Southland and Canterbury emerging as winners of their respective sections. They meet in the final for the K Cup and championship on Saturday. Eastern registered another good performance. Not only are they the only team to win all, five matches, but they also achieved the distinction of not having a goal scored against them, while themselves nothing a tally of 40. For the second day in succession the champions had a ten-goal margin, trouncing Wairarapa by that score. The next best performance to Eastern in section B was registered by Wellington, -with four wins and a loss. In sec-; tion A Canterbury, while unbeaten, drew in two matches. Today they clinched the right to participate in the final by outclassing Ashburton, 5-2. Ashburton, who were previously level with Canterbury, now play Feilding tomorrow, to decide which team will meet Wellington for the Holden Cup, the third trophy. Marlborough A, who were on terms with Feilding, failed again today, losing to Feilding by a decisive margin. The weather, which had been favourable, changed suddenly, rain falling for section B matches. .Points, at the close of sectional play: Section A: Canterbury 8, Ashburton 6, Feilding 6, Auckland 5, Marlborough A 4, Poverty Bay 1. Section B: Eastern 10, Wellington 8, Wairarapa 5, Wanganui 5, Southland 2, Marlborough B nil. Results: — Section A: Auckland 3, Poverty Bay nil; Canterbury 5, Ashburton 2; Feilding G, Marlborough A 1. Section B: Eastern 1-1, Wairarapa nil; Wellington 2, Wanganui nil; Southland 6, Marlborough B 1.
