RUSH OF ENROLMENTS
TERRITORIALS AND NATIONAL RESERVE. POSITION IN SOUTH ISLAND. (By Telegrapn—Press Association.). CHRISTCHURCH, This>J)ay. Recruiting for military forces in the South Island has been proceeding at an accelerated pace during the past month. Every unit of the Territorial Army in the Southern Military District is now up to peace establishment and many of them are over it. The total number of officers and men was now 5156. Volunteers for the National Military Reserve have also been rushing for enrolment forms during the past week. The total number of enrolments at nine o’clock this morning was 2631. JUMP IN RECRUITING. WANGANUI APPLICATIONS. WANGANUI, This Day. The state of the international situation is acting as an incentive to many New Zealanders to wake up to their country’s position and military reserve recruiting has gone ahead with a jump. The Wanganui Defence Office has beert receiving about 30 applications' daily for enrolment, including numbers between 60 and 70 years of age. DOMINION FIGURES. NATIONAL RESERVE TOTAL NEARLY 20,000. WELLINGTON, This Day. The total enrolments in the New Zealand National Reserve to 9 a.m. today was 19,161. Class 'I totals 2473, Class 11, 7792, and Class HI, 5731 and those not elegible 3165. The increase of 367 enrolments since 9 a.m. yesterday is one of the highest to date and includes 209 ex-servicemen.
