The New Zealanders who made such an impressive showing in tournament play at the croquet carnival last week suffered a setback today when they lost two teams matches and won one. Results:— New Zealand No 1, 142, beat New South Wales, 123. Doubles: R. W. McCreath and Mrs Gambrill lost, 19-26; Mesdames Palmer and Clark won, 2617. Singles: Mrs Clark won 26-21; R. W. McCreath lost, 22-26; Mrs Palmer’ won, 26-7; Mrs Gambrill lost, 23-26. South Island, 105, lost to South Australia, 144. Doubles: Mesdames Nicholson and Bryant won, 24-23; J. Thompson and Mrs Griffin lost, 16-26. Singles: J. Thornton won 26-17:, Mrs Griffin lost, 15-26; Mrs Nicholson lost, 17-26; Mrs Bryant lost, 7-26. North Island, 112, lost to Queensland, 138. Doubles: Mesdames Henderson and Brown won, 26-25; Mesdames Lowery and McCreath lost, 13-26. Singles: Mrs Lowery won, 26-9; Mrs McCreath lost, 19-26; Mrs Henderson lost, 20-26; Mrs Brown lost, 8-26.
