SHORTAGE OF WOOD

POSITION IN MASTERTON. WET WEATHER DELAYS DELIVERY’ FROM PADDOCKS. "Not for several years has there been such an acute shortage of wood in Masterton as there is at the present time,” said a wood dealer this morning. He added that there was still a large quantity of good wood available at Mt Bruce, but owing to the recent wet weather, the contractors were unable to work the paddocks. If the present finy weather continued for a week, he considered that plenty of wood would come to hand.

Large stocks had been carried over from the summer months, but these were quickly absorbed when winter set in. Much of the wood at present obtainable was not of the best quality and was rather wet. The wise housekeeper was the one who secured supplies during the summer and thus ensured getting dry wood of good quality. .
