MAORI FOUND DEAD

RUN OVER BY TRAIN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, August 21. The body of an elderly, well-dressed Maori, believed to be Mr Sam Tn. Matapihi, near Tauranga, was discovered on the Taurangq bridge about 7 o’clock tonight in a terribly mutilated condition. The man had been struck by a train, and from the nature of the injuries it is thought that death would be instantaneous.

The grim discovery was made by another Maori when he was walking into Tauranga. The body was lying on a girder about a quarter of the way across the bridge. The left leg had been amputated.
