Mr H. McKay, Auckland, is on a visit to Masterton and is staying at the Empire Hotel. ,
Guests at the Prince of Wales Hotel, Masterton, include Messrs R. Masefield and Tilyard (Wellington).
Mr W. A. Fisher, Petone, has been elected a member of the Hutt Valley High School Board to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr C. E. Dowland.
Guests at the Hotel Midland, Masteiton, .include Messrs B. Hollier (Hastings), I. Tyrell, Murray (Palmerston North), W. Percivall, H. D. Ellis, K. 13. Morpeth (.Wellington), and R. Allen, C. Davis (Wanganui).
Mr G. G. Hancox, principal of Wairarapa College, underwent a major operation in Palmerston North Hospital on Saturday, and was reported yesterday to have come through most satisfactorily.
The Hon. P. C. Webb, Minister of Labour, who is still a patient in Leyvisham Hospital, where he is receiving treatment for eye trouble, temporarily left the hospital yesterday to attend a meeting of Cabinet and to transact some urgent official business. He re : turned to hospital in the early evening, but expects to leave permanently during the next day or so.
The death has occurred of Mr E. 11. Thomas, solicitor to the Public Trust Office, Wanganui, aged 45 years. Mr Thomas took part in a golf match on the Belmont links. Wanganui al the weekend, and complained of not feeling well. On returning home a doctor was called, but Mr Thomas died shortly after his arrival. Before going to Wanganui more than 15 years ago. Mr Thomas practised in IVlangawelca. A keen cricketer, he was a valued member of the Wanganui Cricket Club for many years, and for a long term was treasurer of the Wanganui Cricket Association.
The death occurred in Wellington recently of Mr Oswald Vincent Church, well known in printing circles. He was born in Hastings and was educated at the Gisborne' High Scliool. alter which he was apprenticed to tlie printing trade. He was later foreman <)f Hie jobbing department of tlie Gisborne "Times,” now defunct, and was subsequently appointed to a similar position on the Hawera “Star.” Two years ago he came to Wellington and took up a position with John Dickinson s. Ltd.. Croxley House, where lie was employed up to the time of his death. During his residence in Gisborne, till his transfer to Hawera. Mr Church was chairman of the Te Hapara School Committee for several years, and was also chairman of the Poultry. Pigeon and Cagebird Association. Tlie late Mr Church was well known in Masterton. having frequently visited friends here.
