NEW POWER LINES

CONSTRUCTION WORK UNDER WAY. LINKING UP WITH WAIRARAPA SYSTEM. The first step in the linking up of the new power line from Wellington with the Wairarapa system was taken yesterday, when power in Masterton was cut off between 1 p.m. and 3.30 p.m. to enable the new line to be taken across existing lines and to enable the new structure at the Waingawa sub-station to be connected up. Mr G. Brown, secretary-manager of the Wairarapa Power Board, said this morning that as far as Masterton was concerned he did not think there would be any further interruptions of power supply for the carrying out of this scheme. In future it would only be necessary to cut off the power in isolated sections in the lower portion of the district.
