MARCUS JAMES CUP. CATHOLIC CLUB DEFEAT ST JOHN’S. A team from the St John’s Debating Club, Ngaio, visited Masterton during the weekend to compete for the Marcus James Catholic Action Cup against the present holders, the Masterton Catholic Club.

The following represented the Ngaio Club: Debate, Messrs Levestam and L. Cameron; Christian Doctrine speech, Mr Scoullar; Oratory, Mr B. M. O’Connor; Elocution, Miss Levestam; Impromptu speech, Mr Levestam. The Masterton Catholic Club was represented as follows: Debate, Messrs J. F. McDonald and T. Tapp; Christian Doctrine speech, Miss K. Cairns; Oratory. Mr J. P. Hogan; Elocution, Miss M. Doyle; Impromptu speech, Mr W. C. Orange. The Masterton Catholic Club were successful in retaining the cup, securing first place in Christian Doctrine speech, Oratory and elocution, the Ngiao team winning the debate and Impromptu speech. The adjudicators were Mrs Edna Patterson. Rev Father. N. Moore and Mr J. Robertson, M.P.
