FINAL DAY
CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB’S MEETING. LINCOLN STEEPLES TO SLAYER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 12. The third and concluding day of the Canterbury Jockey Club's Grand National meeting held at Riccarton today saw some substantial dividends and upsets. the wins of Wagner in the Heathcote Handicap and of Merry March in the first division of the Longbeach Handicap being attended by win prices seldom reached when form is usually so well exposed. The small fields in ihese two races and the two big dividends cramped the activities of punters to some extent and the totalisator turnover for the day was £62,458 (win £28,977, place £33,481) compared with £66,022 on the .third day last year, a decrease of £3564. The total for the meeting was £176,219 10s, against £171,716 last August, an increase of £4503 10s. The weather was fine but very cold and the track in good order.
