MAHUNGA CLUB

— NET AGGREGATE COMPETITION. (By “Par” Last Saturday saw the completion of, the third round of the Mahunga Golf Club's aggregate competitions, and some very good cards were returned, particularly from the junior players. R. F. Buick, in playing three strokes below his handicap, played very steady and sound golf after negotiating the first three holes. This player has apparently just come in to his game, and in playing below his handicap on two consecutive days has earned a. reduction in handicap. G. F. Duff was next in line with two below his handicap necessitating his second reduction this season —a good effort for one who is not always a consistent 'starter, because of a kindred sport, football.

A. O. Jones in. returning a net 69 repeated his previous week's performance and consequently is entitled to his reduction. Many are the amusing stories told of the golfer’s luck that follows Jones’s play —some are almost incredible except for those who actually witness the play, but luck or no luck, it is the results that count, and this player is playing sound golf at the moment and "Par” honestly believes that it will not be long before a further reduction is earned.

G. R. Turner played nicely to his handicap in returning a net 71. Judging by his past cards this player should not be long before he is off the limit mark. I. McFarlane in returning a net 70 played one stroke below his handicap —a good effort by a low handicap player. E. Jenkins returned one over his handicap. It was unfortunate that he crashed at one hole, as apart from this his card was consistent. This player is inclined to be erratic at times, but is capable of turning on sound golf if he likes to do so. Tomorrow will see the second qualifying round of the club’s championships and some interesting performances are expected. It is also gratifying to the match committee to notice that games in the Ladies’ Trophy Competition are proceeding apace. In view of the coming championship play, it is requested that as many games in the former competition be played as soon as conveniently possible.
