PENALTY FOR BOOKMAKING. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN. August 10. This afternoon Detective-Sergeant Hall and Detectives Russell. Marsh and Marshall raided premises in Forbury Crescent, with the result that, later in the afternoon, John Phillip Donaldson, John Charles Tooman, and Alexander Malcolm Barron, were charged before Mr 11. W. Bundle, S.M., in the Magistrates' Court, with having carried on the business of bookmakers. Evedince was that Donaldson, who had been previously fined for a similar offence, had been operating in a big way, a considerable amount of betting material being found on Ihe premises. Donaldson was fined £350. and the other two defendants, who were employees. £25 each.
