EKETAHUNA

INTOXICATED MOTORIST A FINE OF £lO IMPOSED. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the Eketahuna S.M. Court on Wednesday, B. Kelliher, for whom Mr T. Jordan (Masterton) entered a plea of not guilty, was charged that at Eketahuna on July 29, he was intoxicated in charge of a car.

After having hoard the evidence Mr Jordan here withdrew his plea of not guilty. He said that accused had been a resident of Masterton for 30 years and was a stock buyer. He submitted that if the penalty included taking his license to drive it would exceed the offence which had not been a bad one. He also had a clean record. He had been to the races where his own horse had been running in the last race. He had helped to put him on the float. He had stopped at Woodville and had had two whiskies. That was all the liquor he had taken. Constable McCowan: His principal occupation is that of a horse trainer and the loss of his license wouldn’t mean so much. He had been twic. before the Court before, in August las and in February of this year at Eketahuna.

The magistrate said he remembered the case lastjAugust when accused had run off the road but it had rather been speeding that had caused it. His license would be endorsed for six months with a fine of £lO and costs. The sentence was suspended until 3 o'clock to allow him to get home.
