Rearing of Quail.

Rearing of Californian quail will be the principal objective of the game committee of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society this year. The committee proposed this in its report to the council of the society. Rearing will be undertaken by natural as well as artificial methods. The council decided to spend £45 on lining the brooder houses. It was decided also to lodge an order for 50 brace of quail with the Otago Acclimatisation Society for early delivery, and to buy 100 stock pheasants. The game committee reported that trapping of quail was proceeding -under a permit from the Internal Affairs Department, which allowed the trapping of not more than 400 birds. The small number trapped so far prompted the committee to recommend that Hie council approve of its action in offering 2s 6d a pair to persons willing to trap under the supervision of the society's rangers.

Tonight the St. Matthew's Girls' Club will present its annual concert in the Parish Hall, at 8 o'clock. The programme will consist of three most amusing plays, produced by Mrs E. ,1. Rich, and a number of excellent individual items. Much hard work lias been put in by the club in preparing for this concert, and it is hoped that a crowded hall will greet the gills.
