SALVAGE WORK ON PORT BOWEN STRONG SOUTHERLY BLOWING. SHIP SAID TO BE RESTING COMFORTABLY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WANGANUI, This Day A strong southerly is still blowing, with rough seas, rendering salvage work on the Port Bowen impossible and the tugs will attempt no more towing until it is possible to take soundings The position of the vessel is unaltered except that she is considered by experts to be more comfortable. Mr S. E. Gregory, Superintendent of the Port Line, came ashore today to consult with the masters of the four tugs, in order to have gear all in readiness when operations .can be
resumed. Because of the be.pding of --some pipes, it is impossible for the Port Bowen to get up steam and it will' be necessary to wait until the sea moderates and the Harbour Board can send out some flexible pipes that are in reserve. As a result of the stranding of the Port Bowen, the sale of camera supplies has gone up 250 per cent in Waganui. Hundreds of people are flooding the shops with negatives.
