INQUEST ADJOURNED.

It was established to the satisfaction of the coroner at an inquest today that the body found on the beach at Taratuhi, near Caverley, last Thursday, was that of Mrs Harriet Jane Patience, wife of Arthur John Patience, of the Public Works camp at Claverley. Mrs Patience disappeared on October 4, 1938.

Chief-Detective W. H. Dunlop, who conducted the inquest for the police, explained to the coroner that the police were at this stage bringing evidence only of identification to permit the burial of the body after this evidence had been given and a warrant for burial signed. The coroner was Mr W. A. Nelson, district coroner for Kaikoura. Evidence was given by relatives of Mrs Patience. Her husband, who was not present, was represented by Mr R. A. Young. Arthur Stephen Patience, single, aged 17. who identified the body as that of his mother. Harriet Jane Patience said he last saw his mother nine -days before her disappearance. He was then living at Cheviot, about 30 miles from Claverley. Witness said that his mother, when he last saw her, appeared to be in her usual state of health. She appeared just slightly depressed, but did not make any mention to hm of being depressed. Evidence was also given by Mrs Mary Ann Southen, aged 84, widow, living at 100 Middlepark Road. Upper Riccarton, mother of Mrs Harriet Jane Patience, and by other relatives. The coroner said he was quite satisfied from the evidence that the body in the morgue was the body of Mrs Harriet Jane Patience. The inquest would be adjourned sine die. The coroner then signed a warrant for burial.
