HEAVY DECLINE IN EXCESS OF EXPORTS.

Exports from New Zealand during the 12 months of the production year which ended on' June 30, totalled £57,851.000 a decrease of £4.069,000 .compared with 1937-38. Imports for the 12 months at £56.500.000. were £1.043.000 less than those for 1937-38. but still stand as the second highest for the last seven years.
The excess of exports in 1938-39 was only £1,351,000 compared, with £4.377,000 in 1937-38 and over £14.000.000 in each of the two preceding years. A sharp rise in imports and a decrease in exports are the principal features of the overseas trade returns for June, issued yesterday by the Customs Department. Imports last month were valued at £5,198,000, compared with £3,583,000 for June 1938, an increase of £1,615.000. Exports were valued at £5,145,000, a decrease of £768,000 compared with those for June of last year. There was an excess of imports during June amounting to £53,000, compared with an excess of exports of £2,330.000 for June, 1938.
