FASCIST ASCENDANCY
INDICATED IN SPAIN
SETBACK FOR SOME FORMER / LEADERS. /
FRANCO FACING SERIOUS . SITUATION. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 9.45 a.m). LONDON. July 24. The Hendaye correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain says .evidence is accumulating that General Franco is facing a serious situation as the result of bids for power by various elements. It appears that pro-Italian Falangists, whose leader, the minister for the interior, Senor Suner, is General Franco’s brother-in-law, have gained an ascendancy, the first sign of which was the removal of General de Llano, on July 21 and also General Yague, both of whom made speeches advocating drastic action by the army in order to secure “Spain for the Spaniards.” General De Llano publicly complained that whereas he and other leaders were largely responsible for the Nationalist victory, none had received the honours which had been showered on foreigners. A decree, banning all public meetings, gives Senor Suner complete control of all demonstrations.
