AUSTRALIAN SOLDIERS
COMING TO NEW ZEALAND NEXT YEAR. SPECIAL SHIPPING PLANS DISCUSSED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 10.30 a.mJ SYDNEY, This Day. The President of the Returned Soldiers League, Mr L. A. Robb, stated that a contingent of at least 500 returned soldiers would visit New Zealand next year for a special Anzac Day observance during the New Zealand centenary celebrations. He added that if the liners Monowai and Maunganui were chartered, they would have to make four Tasman crossings, two in ballast, in order to transport the Australian contingent. The fare which would have to be charged would be higher than the regular New Zealand fares and would be beyond the reach of many men anxious to make the trip. An alternative sugestion made was that the inter-State liner Katoomba should be chartered by the Union Company. This vessel would have to make only two crossings, and it was hoped that the fares would be much lower, in which event it was considered certain that a full complement of 550 would be carried. If regular transTasman shipping cannot cater for the overflow, arrangements can still bo made to charter another vessel.
