VICTORIA COLLEGE WINS DEBATING CONTEST.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, July 21

The annual Joynt Scroll University debating competition between teams representing Otago University, Victoria, Canterbury and Auckland University Colleges and Canterbury and Massey Agricultural Colleges held today, was won by the Victoria team, Messrs R. W. Edgley and R. L. Meek, with Massey College, Messrs D. M. Smith and A. A. Dunlop, second. The award for the best speaker went to Mr Meek, with Mr Smith second, and Mr B. B. Gardner, Canterbury Agricultural College, third. The subject of the debate was “That Education in New Zealand Fails to Equip us for Everyday Life.”
